After a couple has worked out their custody schedule, a critical and often tense time for parents is the exchange of the child when custody shifts from one to the other. Ideally, parents will consider the best way to make a smooth transition. The emotions of mom and dad need to be put aside and their focus should be placed on their child, who is dealing with the upheaval of shifting custody week after week and sometimes day after day.
